The last single from Shrag’s third LP Canines, “On the Spines of Old Cathedrals” is perhaps the most accessible track on the album. Fizzing with nervous, electric energy, with Canines Shrag have marked themselves out as one of the most exciting bands in Britain. With a canny ear for melody and an ability to manipulate words into impossibly clever lyrics, “Spines…” is a suitably smashing track to end with.

“Spines refers to a giddy, intoxicating moment on top of a crumbling cathedral in a hot foreign country where it felt like we were scrambling along the back of a large indifferent animal and everything felt possible, just for a little while,” explains Helen King, the band’s lead vocalist and main lyricist.

The album Canines stalks new territory for Shrag, broadening their spectrum of sound with a high quality production that encompasses such influences as ESG, Chic and New Order. Recorded at Gargleblast Studios with producer Andy Miller (Life Without Buildings, Mogwai, Sons and Daughters), Canines is a visceral pop record bristling with urgency, melody, and danger, and is the sound of a band fully in their stride.

Includes immediate download of 2-track album in your choice of high-quality MP3, FLAC, or just about any other format you could possibly desire.
