Recording Heyday was actually one of the first times I’d ever played an electric guitar! I have this really resounding memory of when I started to play around, trying out the song on Michael’s guitar (Mic co-produced the record with me), and looking up to see him smiling and shaking his head. “It’s always so crazy how different musicians play an instrument so differently” he said, “I’d never be able to get those sounds out of that guitar.”
This song is very close to my heart because it features some of the memories of my grandmother, reflecting on the years she spent living in a caravan in the woods with her family. It’s something I’ve always found fascinating and it’s really special for me to have her voice on record.
