Rhapsody 77 (radio edit)

from Rhapsody 77 by Hilbert Space featuring Keiron Phelan

/

about

Hilbert Space is composer and multi instrumentalist James Stringer. All instruments played by James Stringer except flute by Keiron Phelan

Hilbert Space is multi-dimensional, which describes appropriately the sound world of this ambient rhapsody. Taking influences from the electronic music pioneers of the ‘60s and ‘70s, such as Tangerine Dream, the rhapsody begins in a dark but peaceful place where the flute interacts with slow-moving atmospherics to weave its calming spell before additional instruments enter the scene with chilled out percussion and natural sounds of birdsong. The central section increases the pace, modulating through a variety of minor keys with an insistent back beat to create an unsettling textural experience. Sunlight erupts, a flute with plucked string accompaniment emerging into the clear with a serene melody. The rhapsody concludes by pitting the flute against eerie voices and textures, the piano finally bringing the whole piece to a quiet, contemplative, conclusion.
